The MRCs of Brome-Missisquoi and La Haute-Yamaska receive a Distinction Award at the Eastern Townships Environmental Excellence Awards Gala for their new Brome-Yamaska bus route
Cowansville, November 14, 2025 — The MRCs of Brome-Missisquoi and La Haute-Yamaska are proud to announce that their joint project, the Brome-Yamaska bus route, has received a Distinction award at the 31st edition of the Eastern Townships Environmental Excellence Awards Gala, organized by the Fondation estrienne en environnement. This recognition highlights the commitment to environmental stewardship and the hard work of the teams behind this innovative project.
A Structuring Project for Interregional Mobility
Launched on August 25, 2025, the Brome-Yamaska bus route now connects the cities of Granby, Bromont, Cowansville, East Farnham, and Saint-Alphonse-de-Granby.
Two buses operate simultaneously from Monday to Friday, on business days, between 6:00 a.m. and 7:20 p.m., running in opposite directions to ensure full coverage and balanced travel times.
“This award is a meaningful recognition for our teams, who have worked tirelessly for the past three years and successfully developed this bus route! It is the first time in the history of our MRCs that both territories are connected by a public transit service,” said Paul Sarrazin, Prefect of the MRC of La Haute-Yamaska.
“This distinction confirms that we made the right choices by investing in sustainable mobility. The Brome-Yamaska route meets a real need for our citizens and makes a tangible contribution to reducing our environmental footprint. It is a unifying project that improves the quality of life in our communities,” said Sylvie Beauregard, Mayor of Cowansville and Chair of the Brome-Missisquoi Transport Committee.
Recognition of Regional Leadership
The Distinction award, presented by the Fondation estrienne en environnement, acknowledges initiatives that stand out for their positive environmental impact and exemplary value for the Eastern Townships region.
The Brome-Yamaska route was among the finalists in the “Large Enterprise” category, alongside other major regional initiatives.
An Innovative Project in Sustainable Mobility
The enhancement of this transportation service in the MRC of Brome-Missisquoi is made possible through funding from the Signature Innovation component of the Quebec Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing’s (MAMH) Regions and Rurality Fund, as well as from the MRC of La Haute-Yamaska. This support is part of the Laboratory for Innovation in Smart and Territorial Mobility (LI-MIT) project, whose main objective is to design and deploy innovative solutions for passenger transportation.
