Day of action against sexual violence towards women: The Coalition of Women’s Groups of Haute-Yamaska and Brome-Missisquoi denounces and calls for a world free of violence
Granby, August 12, 2025 – As the Day of Action Against Sexual Violence Towards Women approaches, the Regroupement Québécois des Centres d’Aide et de Lutte contre les Agressions à Caractère Sexuel (RQCALACS) is launching the provincial campaign “Refusing the Unacceptable.”
On this occasion, the Coalition of Women’s Groups of Haute-Yamaska and Brome-Missisquoi is inviting the public to mobilize and demand a world free of violence. Citizens are invited to join a peaceful march on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. in downtown Cowansville. The march will begin at Parc Davignon (Place Municipale).
This campaign aims to highlight the fact that sexual violence continues to disproportionately affect girls, women, and marginalized people—and that solutions do exist. We have the power to act and to end it. At the heart of the campaign is an intersectional feminist manifesto, available online, which proposes concrete solutions, such as:
- Improved access to justice for survivors
- A framework law against sexual violence in schools
- Measures to counter the increasing precarity of women
- The defense of migrant rights and reproductive rights
The event will begin with an interactive activity where participants will be able to create their own personalized signs. This activity encourages personal expression and collective preparation for the march. Before the march departs, a speech will be delivered to provide an important and inspiring perspective to guide the action. This address will shed light on the crucial issues and values we wish to promote.
We invite you to join us for this significant event and to share an evening of solidarity, creativity, and inspiration. After marching together to denounce the unacceptable, we will remain united to make our voices heard. An open mic will be available following the march.
The Coalition of Women’s Groups of Haute-Yamaska and Brome-Missisquoi is composed of organizations that provide support to women, including Maison Alice-Desmarais, Horizon pour Elle, CALACS des Rivières, the Centre des femmes des Cantons, and Centre de femmes Entr’elles.
