Brome-Missisquoi Bioblitz – Discover local wildlife at Jacques-Bonnette nature park
An invitation to explore, observe and document Brome-Missisquoi’s biodiversity
Cowansville, September 3, 2026 – The MRC de Brome-Missisquoi invites the public to take part in the Brome-Missisquoi Bioblitz, a large-scale participatory event dedicated to discovering local biodiversity. The event will take place on September 11 and 12, 2026, at Jacques-Bonnette Nature Park in Cowansville. Organized in collaboration with the City of Cowansville, Mission Faune – Zoo de Granby and the Fondation pour la biodiversité et la faune du Québec, this free event will give residents of all ages an opportunity to explore nature, observe local wildlife and contribute to a citizen science project.
Whether you are passionate about nature, a beginner or simply curious, no prior knowledge is required. Accompanied by specialists from Mission Faune – Zoo de Granby, Folles Bestioles and an entomologist, participants will set out to discover the species that inhabit the park. Using the iNaturalist citizen science app, their observations can help expand knowledge about local biodiversity and improve our understanding of the importance of protecting it.
An exploration of nature… with a mission!
A bioblitz is a nature observation activity that invites people of all ages to explore a natural environment alongside specialists. During the exploration, participants will be able to observe, photograph and identify the species they encounter, while learning more about the biodiversity of their region.
The goal is simple: find and document as many species as possible, with the help of specialists, while contributing to a better understanding of the biodiversity found throughout Brome-Missisquoi and enjoying an enriching experience in the heart of nature.
Two activities, two discovery experiences
- Friday, September 11, 2026, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Bat discovery evening
Participants will set out to discover the bats that frequent this riverside park. Accompanied by specialists, they will learn more about these fascinating and often misunderstood mammals. In case of rain, this activity will be cancelled.
- Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 8 a.m. to noon
Discovering turtles, insects and wetland wildlife
Participants will explore the park’s wetland and riverside environments in search of turtles, insects and other wildlife species that find refuge there. This activity will take place rain or shine.
A family-friendly and accessible activity
The event is open to nature enthusiasts, beginners, families, curious minds and anyone interested in learning more about the species that live close to home. No prior knowledge is required.

Participants are encouraged to bring comfortable shoes, a water bottle, clothing suitable for the weather conditions and insect repellent.

This activity is part of the implementation of the MRC’s Regional Natural Environments Plan.
This initiative is funded through the Blue Fund, as part of the National Water Strategy and the Québec Water Strategy, which implement concrete measures to protect, use and manage water and aquatic environments responsibly, in an integrated and sustainable manner.
