Quebec’s Family Allowance

Quebec’s Family Allowance gives families money that can be used to meet the basic needs of children under 18.

This allowance is open to all permanent residents or immigrants with temporary status who have lived in Quebec for 18 months or more. Asylum seekers are not eligible for this allowance.

Usually, the allowance is given to the family’s mother and payments are made every three months. You can, however, ask for payments to be made monthly. SERY (Solidarité ethnique régionale de la Yamaska) can help you file this request (see the Contact person section below).

Canada Child Benefit (CCB)

The CCB also provides money that can be used to meet the basic needs of children under 18. The CCB is granted by the federal government (of Canada).

This benefit is also open to any permanent resident or immigrant with temporary status who has lived in Quebec for 18 months or more. Asylum seekers are not eligible for this benefit.

This benefit is also given to the family’s mother and is paid out on the 20th of the month. If the 20th of the month falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the money will be deposited the Friday prior.

You cannot apply for this benefit online, only with a hard copy application. SERY (Solidarité ethnique régionale de la Yamaska) can also help you with the application process (see the Contact person section below).

How do these benefits work?

Provincial and federal benefits are calculated based on your income and the number of children under 18 in your care.
