Cultural heritage: Partnership agreement signed with the Brome-Missisquoi regional county municipality
Cowansville, July 2, 2026 – Isabelle Charest, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister Responsible for Canadian Relations and Member of the National Assembly for Brome-Missisquoi, announced on behalf of Mathieu Lacombe, Minister of Culture and Communications, the signing of a cultural heritage agreement with the Brome-Missisquoi Regional County Municipality (RCM). The agreement includes financial assistance of $589,880. The Brome-Missisquoi RCM, together with the municipalities of Bromont, Cowansville, Sutton, Farnham, Lac-Brome and Saint-Ignace-de-Stanbridge, are participating in the Heritage Partnership Program (HPP).
Examples of projects that may be carried out
- City of Bromont: Update of the built heritage inventory, particularly with respect to intangible and historical heritage.
- Brome-Missisquoi RCM: Development of a management and action plan for the protection of Brome-Missisquoi's landscape and cultural heritage.
- Town of Lac-Brome: Development of a heritage management policy.
- Town of Cowansville: Preparation of architectural reference sheets for Main Street.
- City of Farnham: Roof repair work for the Saint-Romuald Centre.
- City of Bromont and Municipality of Saint-Ignace-de-Stanbridge: Municipal grant program to support property owners undertaking heritage preservation and restoration projects.
Through this agreement, the Government of Québec and its municipal partners reaffirm their commitment to preserving and passing on Québec's cultural heritage to future generations. These agreements are important financial tools for RCMs, enabling them to enhance the heritage assets found throughout their territories, increase their attractiveness, and strengthen collective identity.
The Government of Québec's contribution to these agreements totals $57.07 million, as part of joint investments with municipalities exceeding $106 million.
