Become a foster family: Information sessions in Brome-Missisquoi
Cowansville, September 8, 2026 – The MRC de Brome-Missisquoi would like to inform residents of the upcoming three information sessions being held this fall for people who would like to learn more about the role of foster families and, potentially, submit an application.
Recruiting new foster families is an important priority in meeting the needs of children and youth in the Estrie region. One of the objectives is to ensure that children who need to be placed can remain as close as possible to their community, school and familiar surroundings.
Three Information Sessions in Brome-Missisquoi
People interested in learning more are invited to attend one of the following sessions:

Understanding the Role of Foster Families
The sessions will be led by a worker responsible for recruiting foster families at Santé Québec Estrie – CHUS. Participants will have the opportunity to learn more about the role of a foster family, current needs in the Estrie region, and the various steps involved in the recruitment process.
An experienced foster family will also be present to share their experience and answer participants’ questions. A short presentation will be followed by a discussion period. The session generally lasts approximately two hours.
Contrary to some common misconceptions, there is no single model of a foster family. Individuals, couples, and families with or without children can apply. Regardless of family structure, what matters is the ability to provide a child with a safe, caring and stable environment, as well as attentive listening and commitment.
A Real Need in the Community
There is a need for foster families throughout the Estrie region. Approximately one in three children receiving services from the Youth Protection Directorate (DPJ) requires placement at some point in their journey.
For the MRC de Brome-Missisquoi, raising awareness of this initiative among residents, municipalities and local partners is one way of helping bring greater attention to an issue that directly affects our community.
