CLD de Brome-Missisquoi launches call for applications for the 2026 Agricultural and Agri-Food Entrepreneurship Scholarships
Cowansville, October 1, 2026 – CLD de Brome-Missisquoi is pleased to announce the launch of the 2026 edition of the Agricultural and Agri-Food Entrepreneurship Scholarships (BARAB). More than just a competition, this initiative aims to shine a spotlight on entrepreneurs who are cultivating new ideas, taking over existing businesses or building an innovative, resilient and sustainable agri-food sector in Brome-Missisquoi, year after year.
Made possible with major support from the Conseil de l’industrie bioalimentaire de l’Estrie (CIBLE), the BARAB scholarships recognize promising projects that make a tangible contribution to the economic, agricultural and food vitality of our region. They also provide a valuable opportunity to showcase the businesses shaping the future of the agri-food sector.
Businesses nourishing the future of Brome-Missisquoi
Whether launching a new agricultural venture, taking over an existing business or growing an established organization, the BARAB scholarships recognize passionate entrepreneurs who dare to innovate and contribute to the development of a local food system.
“Behind every applicant business are people who take risks, innovate and help build a stronger, more resilient region. The BARAB scholarships are a tangible way to recognize their commitment and share their inspiring stories,” says Johanne Gauvin, Director of Economic Development at CLD de Brome-Missisquoi.
More than $16,000 in scholarships and awards to celebrate the next generation
The 2026 edition will award three scholarships of $4,000 each, along with two special distinctions recognizing outstanding journeys and projects. Applications will be evaluated by an independent jury based on the overall quality of each project and its contribution to Brome-Missisquoi’s development priorities.
Eligible businesses may apply in one of the following categories:
- Start-up of an agricultural or agri-food business;
- Takeover of an agricultural or agri-food business;
- Establishment and growth (5 to 10 years) of an agricultural or agri-food business.
Projects will also be evaluated based on their contribution to the regional values promoted by the MRC and CLD de Brome-Missisquoi:
- Sustainable development;
- Innovation;
- The regional food system.
The three highest-scoring projects, regardless of category, will receive a scholarship. Therefore, not all categories will necessarily be represented among the recipients.
Special awards to recognize standout projects
In addition to the main scholarships, two special distinctions will be awarded:
- Jury’s Choice Award: $1,000 scholarship;
- Market Gardening Award: Access to the Jardinier-Maraîcher Masterclass, valued at approximately $3,000. This award will be presented to a market gardening business that stands out for its practices and contribution to sustainable agriculture.
Support aligned with our region’s priorities
The BARAB initiative directly supports the implementation of Brome-Missisquoi’s 2024–2034 Sustainable Development Strategic Plan. It contributes to strengthening a local and regional agri-food system, fostering innovative practices and encouraging the development of sustainable businesses.
Once again this year, the scholarships are open to businesses across the entire agri-food value chain. Agricultural producers, food processors, restaurateurs and food distributors are invited to submit their applications and highlight their contribution to the vitality of our region.
Your turn to apply!
Interested entrepreneurs have until Sunday, November 8, 2026, at 5 p.m. to submit their applications online.
The recipients will be announced at the awards ceremony on Thursday, November 26, 2026.
Whether you are launching a business, taking one over or entering a new stage of growth, this is your opportunity to showcase your business, share your journey and highlight your contribution to the future of Brome-Missisquoi’s agri-food sector.
