A new way to reclaim the value of your deposit containers
With the modernization of the recycling system in Québec, the deposit program is evolving as well. In collaboration with Consignaction, this new deposit system aims to improve recycling, reduce waste, and promote the circular economy.
What is Consignaction?
Consignaction is the organization responsible for implementing the expanded deposit system in Quebec. Its main role is to ensure that eligible beverage containers are efficiently collected and recycled in a closed-loop system.
Since the expansion of the deposit system, the following ready-to-drink beverage containers from 100 mL to 2 L can be returned:
- Plastic bottles (water, juice, soft drinks, etc.)
- Aluminum cans
- Some glass bottles – all glass containers will be part of the deposit system in 2027
Eventually, almost all beverage containers from 100 mL to 2 L will be returnable.
The deposit amount is 10 cents for most beverage containers, except for certain glass bottles from 500 mL to 2 L, which are already part of the system and have a 25-cent deposit.
Return points are being rolled out across Québec, including in the Brome-Missisquoi MRC. You can return containers:
- At select grocery stores and participating retailers
- At Consignaction return locations

- To increase beverage container recovery rates
- To ensure better source separation (less contamination)
- To more effectively fund the recovery chain
- You’ll see fewer beverage containers in your blue bin.
- You’ll need to return them to a drop-off point to get your deposit back.
- You’re contributing to a more eco-friendly and responsible way of managing your waste.
