Workplace

Quebec businesses place great value on equality, flexibility, respect, trust and teamwork.

Relationship with your immediate superior

Respect for authority is an important value in Quebec. However, respect for authority may take a different form in Quebec than it does in your country of origin.

In Quebec and Canada, it is quite common to address your superior by their first name. It is also totally common to eat with your superior or other people in the company who are higher up than you in the organization.

It is also important to respect people lower than you in the organization. For example, it is frowned upon to not be polite when asking someone for something, even if they are lower than you in the organization. It is also fine to disagree with your supervisor and to politely share your opinion with them.
