WASTE MANAGEMENT    Policies

Policies

Faced with the impact of residual waste (which includes both reusable materials and those destined for landfills) on the quality of life, the Ministère du Développement durable, de l'Environnement et des Parcs developed the Quebec Residual Materials Management Policy (in French only) and required Quebec’s MRCs to create Residual Materials Management Plans (PGMR) through the Environment Quality Act.

The Quebec Policy on Waste Management 1998-2008 came to term. Thus, on November 16, 2009, the Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks, Mrs Line Beauchamp, announced Quebec’s new policy regarding Waste Management for the years 2010 to 2015, which would include an initial action plan. This new policy reflects the governmental intention of developing a whole new green industry that would creates job opportunities as well as wealth.

This new policy and Action Plan 2010-2015 is, however, subject of public consultation.

All information on the subject and the draft of the regulations are available on the Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment and Park’s website (in French only).
